'Snappy Sammy Smoot' Creator Skip Williamson Died At The Age Of 72: Sudden Death Remained Unknown

An American underground cartoonist and leading figure in the innovative comics movement that incorporate his complete political love of scatological humor, Skip Williamson died on March 16 at Albany Memorial Hospital. The cartoonist died at the age of 72 because of renal failure.

According to Comics Beat, Skip Williamson's death remained unclear and not able to clarify the cause of his death on social media. On Adrienne statement, it was said that the cartoonist main reason of death was an antibiotic he needed to take for his complications from heart disease, diabetes, and renal failure.

Meanwhile, in the 1960s and 70s, the common mainstream in comics were sex, profanity, violence and drugs as well as superheroes that are controversial for underground cartoonist such as Skip Williamson, in The New York Times report. Moreover, Williamson comic characters were often illustrating grotesques such as pomaded black hair, "Snappy Sammy Smoot," dandy with googly eyes, delicate mustache and gigantic red lips.

Skip Williamson was accompanied by 37th U.S President, Richard M. Nixon for becoming a target of a parody from his twisted background more than editorial cartoonist did in their job. "Class War Comix" was published by two-panel cartoons that get the attention of Former President Nixon for the false accusation to Vice President Spiro T. The creator of "Snappy Sammy Smoot" joined his self with the Youth International Party in the 1960s that are best known as "Yippies" and become one of anarchist. Skip Williamson also knew the two leaders such as Abbie Hoffman and Jerry Rubin which is a social activist.

As the first step of Skip Williamson in the group, he edited the comic book like "Conspiracy Capers" just to raise money for legal fees for "Chicago Seven" that includes to social activist leaders, Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman who tried to interrupt the 1968 Democratic National convention. Indeed, Williamson really supports the Youth International Part and even helped Mr. Hoffman sells the best seller "Steal This Book."
