Restorers Strangely Found A Double-Sided Secret In Medieval Portrait Of "Virgin Mary And Christ Child"

The Italian Renaissance artist Pietro di Niccolo da Orvieto's artwork, "The Virgin Mary and Christ Child," was displayed at the Fitzwilliam Museum. Meanwhile, the 14th Century image displayed in the Cambridge museum for decades has leaked for its double-sided secret after a 600-hour restoration work.

On BBC report, the Conservatory group was preparing Pietro di Niccolo's artwork for an exhibition but they've found another painting on a retreat panel. The canvas was displayed as always and not carefully examined with the Virgin Mary on a show before Madonnas and Miracles exhibit preparation began that illustrate the world religious devotion in Italian Renaissance home.

The masterpiece was covered with dirt and fading colors after affected for centuries, which brought back for its renowned beauty by seven restorers from Hamilton Kerr Institute museum. According to Age Times, the deception of "The Virgin Mary and Christ Child" was in great aspiration and originally made as a double-sided sacred object for worshippers, private prayer and meditation.

The restoration also viewed the wound clearly in the folds of Virgin Mary's veil by using infrared reflectography that gives details on the painting. Moreover, it was known as a "maphorion" after being undetectable to the naked eye over centuries.

Pietro di Niccolo da Orvieto's artwork "The Virgin Mary and Christ Child" that discovered the wound of Virgin Mary's veil was restored from a flat black overpaint on its first bright blue color which exemplifies the heavens. Fitzwilliam Museum said in their statement that the canvas is "testament to the religious devotion of the Italian Renaissance."

Meanwhile, the artwork was displayed on Madonnas and Miracles exhibit with the glass on it where both sides can be noticed. The religious artwork describes Christians' deep faith in God, which makes the painting admirable.
