Iconic Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher succumbed to death on December 27, 2016, following a massive cardiac arrest, and within 24 hours her mother and legendary actress Debbie Reynolds breathed her last. Film historians described the incident as an unfortunate end.

Known for her majestic onscreen presence, Reynolds was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer for her portrayal of Helen Kane in the 1950 film Three Little Words, however, her first leading role was as Kathy Selden in Singin' in the Rain. "Nearly everyone who has seen Singing in the Rain remembers the instant classic "Good Morning to You," created when Reynolds was just 19. Now there's a "Tappy" tribute video that includes Broadway stars from Book of Mormon, Newsies, and Cats," ArtsJournal described.

The musical was recreated by The Book Of Mormon's Christopher Rice and features Rice as Don Lockwood, Clay Thomson as CosMo Brown, and Broadway leading lady Eloise Kropp as Reynolds' Kathy Selden.

Released in 1952, Singin' in the Rain' was musical comedy directed and choreographed by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen and starred Kelly, Donald O'Connor, and Debbie Reynolds. It was a comical take on the Hollywood in the late 20s which were the era of transition from silent to talkies. Leading man O'Connor won numerous awards including the Golden Globe, Writers Guild.

According to a report on Broadway World, the film topped the AFI's Greatest Movie Musicals list and is ranked as the fifth greatest American motion picture of all time in its updated list of the greatest American films in 2007.
