Eiffel Tower, the eternal monument of love is hailed as one of the greatest architecture. Even though the famous tower is over a century old, It still stands tall through the test of times and remains the main attraction for Paris bound tourists. Reportedly Eiffel Tower may go through a 15 year long renovation pretty soon.

According to The Guardian, the Paris city authorities have announced a plan for the renovation of the Eiffel Tower in order to improve security measures, lessen the amount of queue for the people and protect the visitors from climatic hazards. This declaration is believed to have come in the wake of Paris being in the run to host the 2024 Olympic Games and the Universal Exhibition in 2025.

The renovation cost will amount to 300 million euro ($319 million) and will take place over a period of the next 15 years. City Mayor Anne Hildalgo is convinced that it is currently the most important job for the authorities to elevate the beauty and security of this monument that holds such a mass appeal.

The deputy mayor of Paris, Jean-François Martins who is also in charge of tourism has said that the tower requires a major face-lift following the terrorist attacks that rocked Paris in the last two years to bolster the security measures. Martins also said that half of the proposed money will be used to refurbish the tower along with its elevator system which still uses some of the original works installed by Gustave Eiffel and also the illumination facility of the tower while the other half will be used to boost visitor facilities and to save them from queuing up in rain and snow.

As per CNN, a total of 13.7 million euro ($14.5 million) is spent on the Tower's maintenance on a yearly basis. The forthcoming revamping plan will lift that to 20 million euro ($21 million). It hosts almost 6 million visitors every year with a total of 82 million euro ($87 million) of revenue earning.

The Eiffel Tower was built in 1889 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution ahead of the Universal Exhibition in Paris and was intended to be dismantled in a couple of years. The authorities later on kept it to be used for radio transmissions. The tower went through a major makeover in 1986 and the first two floors were opened for the tourists in 2014. SETE, a private company that is in charge of the tower with 60% stake holding paid 30 million euro for the installation of glass panels on the floors.

The Eiffel Tower is undoubtedly one of the most popular landmark of Paris and the new initiative taken by the city authorities for its further beautification and renovation is expected to enhance its charm and everlasting appeal.
