Prince Charles Authors Ladybird Book on Climate Change

Prince Charles, in association with two leading environmental campaigners, has authored a Ladybird book on the impacts of climatic changes. The royal scion has always voiced his support for climate change skeptics.

According to a report in The Guardian, The Ladybird Book on Climate Change, the first in a new series aimed at adults, The Ladybird Expert, is to be published later this month. The 48-page hardback is written along with Tony Juniper and Emily Shuckburgh. Interestingly, the book is styled on the line of the  iconic children's Ladybird series popular in the 1960s and 70s. "Perhaps mindful of the prince's passionate views on the subject - he once called sceptics the headless chicken brigade - publishers Penguin Books have taken the precaution of having the book extensively peer reviewed by figures within the environmental community," The Guardian Opined.

Penguin's publishing director Rowland White was quoted saying to the Sunday Times that Clarence House approached the publisher with the idea. The thought of publishing the book is said to have evolved after Charles addressed the United Nations conference on climate change in Paris in 2015. Post the discussion, he was said to be thinking about the lack of a basic guide to a complex subject like climate change.

The report on The Guardian further stated that the final draft of the 5,000-word manuscript was overlooked by David Warrilow, chairman of the climate science special interest group at the Royal Meteorological Society, and a team of seven other climate specialists. The book also features many illustrations of the original Ladybird titles. Interestingly, Charles himself has been a subject of the children book in 1981 when he married Lady Diana Spencer. The devastating October 2000 flood at East Sussex town of Uckfield occupies the cover of the book, which provides detailed insight on the challenging subject.
