London Premiere of Musical-hit Hamilton is Priced at £200 for Premium Seats

Did you know, the highly anticipated US hit musical Hamilton will cost £200 each when it opens in London later this year. Lin-Manuel Miranda's record-breaking musical Hamilton is finally coming to the West End. The Pulitzer prize-winning show will also preview at the Victoria Palace Theatre in November.

Interestingly, what has drawn the attentions of viewers is the cost of premium seats which will initially be £127.50 and £190, rising to £137.50 and £200 apiece from 7 December, according to The Guardian. The report further pointed out that in 2015 the premium seats to see The Book of Mormon were being officially sold for £202.25 each and trend is not a new experience for London fans. Apart from the premium seats, the rest are priced nominally.

Many fans have expressed their concern over the high ticket pricing. However, the show's London producer, Cameron Mackintosh has defended the move to the British daily by clarifying that the team is focussing at protecting the patrons from paying highly inflated prices. He also added that the Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop musical, which has won 11 Tony awards, has allocated 295 seats per performance to be priced at £37.50 or less.

According to another report on BBC, Delfont Mackintosh Theatres has revealed that it will have a paperless ticket system "to combat the unauthorized profiteering of third party resellers". The move is to curtail third-party reselling. As a result, no physical copy will be given in advance and viewers have to collect their tickets on the day of the performance. Created and written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hamilton narrates the story of America's birth and founding father Alexander Hamilton using rap, R&B, and hip-hop.

The West End production will open its prior bookings on 16 January, while general booking begins on 30 January. The first performance is scheduled on 21 November.
