Chita Rivera, Tommy Tune Joining Hands For 'Two for the Road'
Broadway stars Chita Rivera and Tommy Tune will be coming together for "Two for the Road" this fall. The tour dates and venues of the actors, who has collectively won 12 Tony Awards, will be announced soon.
In a press statement published by PlayBill, Chita has expressed that she is thrilled to collaborate with her good friend Tommy for this concert tour. The last time they performed together was for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS in 2013. On the other hand, Tommy said that his dream will come true with this tour.
Chita is one of the most renowned theater artists with two Tony Awards and eight nominations. Some of her memorable drama includes "The Rink," "Kiss of the Spider Woman," "West Side Story," "Bye Bye Birdie," "The Visit." And the list doesn't end here, she has also appeared in the Broadway versions of "Guys and Dolls," "Seventh Heaven," "Mr. Wonderful," and "Can-Can," under her kitty.
Broadway World recalled that in 2009, President Barrack Obama honored her with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Earlier in 2002, she became the first Hispanic women to win the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors. At 84, Chita is still actively touring across the country. Earlier this month, she performed a one-woman show "Chita: A Legendary Celebration." At the show, she reprised her favorite songs and revealed many interesting tidbits about her career and creative collaborations.
Tommy has a whopping 10 Tony Awards to his kitty. This multi-talented star is an exceptional performer, choreographer, and director. He was awarded the Best Actor for "Seesaw," Best Direction for "Grand Hotel," "The Will Rogers Follies," and "Nine," and Best Choreography for "The Will Rogers Follies," "Grand Hotel," "My One and Only," and "A Day in Hollywood." In addition, he was also the proud recipient of Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2015.
