Hillary Clinton Meets Norma Desmond; Gets A Standing Ovation!
Hillary Clinton was at the Broadway recently--fourth time after losing the US Presidential Elections--to watch the revival of Tony Award-winning Best Musical, "Sunset Boulevard." Opera expert Glenn Close made her comeback to the center stage almost after two decades with this musical extravaganza.
The former secretary of state received a thundering welcome at the theater when she made her entry. Selfies, standing ovations, and applauds followed, NewYork Times reported. She was indeed given a heroic welcome. Being an avid supporter of arts, Hillary has earlier watched a number of shows at the Broadway including "Henry IV," "Avenue Q," "The Audience," "South Pacific," "An American in Paris," "The King and I," and "You Can't Take It With You."
Actress Kate McKinnon accompanied Hillary to the aisle seat in the Palace Theatre's orchestra section. Hillary also interacted and posed for photographs with Glenn and the team of "Sunset Boulevard" post the show, The DailyBeast revealed.
Three-time Tony Award winner Glenn portrayed the role of Norma Desmond to perfection. The actress has played the same role in the original 1994 Broadway production of "Sunset" that won her several accolades. The production will have an extended run at the Broadway till June 25, 2017. Originally the show was planned as a limited run through May 28, 2017. However, due to the overwhelming response in the ticket sale, the production team decided to extend the date.
The ENO revival of "Sunset Boulevard" is based on a 1950 classic film of the same name. Directed by Lonny Price, Tony-winner Andrew Lloyd Webber has scored the music with lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton.
The rest of the cast includes Michael Xavier, Fred Johanson, and Siobhan Dillon with support from Nancy Anderson, Drew Foster, David Hess, Stephanie Martignetti, T. Oliver Reid, Brittney Johnson, Katie Ladner, Lance Roberts, Stephanie Rothenberg, Mackenzie Bell, Lauralyn McClelland, Preston Truman Boyd, Barry Busby, Britney Coleman, Julian Decker, Anissa Felix, Graham Rowat, Paul Schoeffler, Andy Taylor, Sean Thompson, Matt Wall, and Jim Walton.
