Eno's 'Wakey, Wakey' Gets an Extension at Signature Theatre
Will Eno's "Wakey, Wakey" is having a one-week extension at its world premiere at Signature Theatre. With this, the show will run through Sunday, March 26, 2017, as it opens at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.
Broadway opines the production as a funny, moving, and thought-provoking lease of life. Directed by Will Eno and Lucille Lortel, it is a take on the importance of life's simple pleasures. The cast comprises of January LaVoy (Signature Plays, Home) and Emmy Award-winner Michael Emerson ("Person of Interest," "Lost"). The creative team includes Michael Krass (Costume Design), Christine Jones (Scenic Design), David Lander (Lighting Design), David H. Lurie (Production Stage Manager), Nevin Steinberg (Sound Design), and Peter Nigrini (Projection Design).
In an article, Broadway World recalled on how Signature Theatre has always been a celebration for playwrights, it is also considered as an artistic home. In 2014, this three-theatre facility on West 42nd Street designed by Frank Gehry Architects received the Regional Theatre Tony Award, first New York City theater to receive the honor.
The Pershing Square facility is a perfect center for the cultural extravaganza, as it encourages collaboration between artists throughout the space. It has three theaters, Studio Theatre, rehearsal studio, and a public café, bar, and bookstore.
Founded in 1991 by James Houghton, Signature Theatre serves as a model for theaters and performing arts organizations across the country. It is supported by Howard Gilman Foundation, the Ford Foundation, Margot Adams, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.
Suzan-Lori Parks is serving as the current Residency One playwright while she is supported by Annie Baker, Martha Clarke, Will Eno, Katori Hall, Quiara Alegría Hudes, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Kenneth Lonergan and ReGina Taylor. The resident writers have won a number of awards including the Pulitzer Prize.
