Kevin Spacey To Host This Year's Tony Awards
The former Tony Awards winner (1991) Kevin Spacey is going to host the 2017 Tony Awards. The 71st annual Tony Awards ceremony is to be aired live by CBS from Radio City Music Hall in June 11. The Tony Awards are represented each year by The Broadway League and The American Theater Wing.
According to ET Online, The executive producers Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner said in an interview that they are very excited to work with Kevin Spacey who is not only the former Tony Awards winner and fan of live theater but a true champion of the arts also.
Reports also stated that CBS Entertainment's EVP Specials, Music and Live Events, Jack Sussman mentioned in an interview that being a true star of TV, film, and theater, Kevin Spacey is the perfect choice to host the 2017 Tony Awards.
Kevin Spacey won the Tony Awards (1991) in Best Feature Actor category for his role in Neil Simon's "Lost in Yonkers" play. Kevin also won 2 Oscars for his role in 1996 in "The Usual Suspects" and in 2000 for "American Beauty". Kevin Spacey's Broadway stint "The Iceman Cometh" was the major event of the 1999 theater season.
According to Variety, picking Kevin Spacey to host this year's Tony Awards has come out late. It's because, after last year's James Corden's mesmerizing hosting contribution which rated highest in 15-year Tony Awards history, the Tony Committee was having a bit of a trouble to choose this year's host.
A report states that Kevin Spacey jokingly commented on this fact that he was the second choice for "Usual Suspects", the fourth choice for "American Beauty", and 15th choice for Tony Awards host. So, it seems to him that his career is going in a right direction. If luck favors, he can even get shortlisted for the host of the Oscars.
Kevin Spacey can joke about it, but we are aware of the fact that the artistic director of the Old Vic in London, former Tony and Oscar Awards winner, Kevin Spacey deserves to be the host Of Tony Awards 2017. The Tony eligibility for season 2017 will end on April 27 and the announcement of nominations will be on May 2. We hope Kevin Spacey will be a perfect host, for his spirit and passion for live theater.
