‘A Series Of Unfortunate Events’ Season 1 Update; Netflix TV Series Whops 3.75 Million Viewers!

Out and out a children's show, the series drew a whopping 3.75 million viewers in the 18-49 demographic in its opening weekend. No doubt, "A Series of Unfortunate Events" is going to leave many, many more top rankers behind as it makes a headway.

 "A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 1 premiered Jan. 13. The show is able to establish its name as one of Netflix's top rated shows, putting the originals "Fuller House," "Orange is the New Black," and "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life" behind.

"A Series of Unfortunate Events" is based on the Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler) book series. Season 1 is about the three Baudelaire orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, who are sent to live with their murderous relative Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) after their parents die in a fire. The count attempts to steal the children's inheritance and, eventually orchestrates numerous disasters with the help of his accomplices while the children attempt to escape.

Some popular names, including Patrick Warburton, Catherine O'Hara, Aasif Mandvi, Alfre Woodard, Joan Cusack, Malina Weissman, and Louis Hynes, make for the cast of "A Series of Unfortunate Events." According to Variety, director Barry Sonnenfeld said the show, which has been inspired by the 13-book Lemony Snicket series, will be divided over three seasons. "A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 1 will cover the first four books, while season 2 will see the middle five. The last four books would be covered in a third season, he said.

This, apparently, announces in its own way that a second season is imminent. While Netflix has neither officially confirmed nor denied a "A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 2, executive producer Barry Sonnenfeld said the second season is already in the scripts.

"We're planning to do more, but we haven't been greenlit to do more," Sonnenfeld told Variety. "But we already have scripts being written for the second season. We have the stages on hold, so we're optimistic."

According to National Public Radio, Neil Patrick Harris as evil Count Olaf is the greatest motivation to watch the show. "A Series of Unfortunate Events" season 1 is now available for online streaming exclusively on Netflix. The show is being aired worldwide.
