Donald Trump’s Office To Be Flooded By Books On Valentine’s Day Because He Doesn’t Read
Barely three weeks into U.S. President Donald Trump’s term, there has been a slew of protests against the country’s 45th president. And recently, a Facebook event plans to add to the list by flooding Trump’s office with books, on Valentine’s Day, a move that references the widely held belief that reading is an activity Donald Trump doesn’t want anything to do with.
As reported by the Huffington Post, the anti-Donald Trump Facebook event called “Bury the White House In Books on Valentine’s Day!” was launched by Aaron Hamburger and Stacie Whitaker of the recently founded Facebook group Leaders Are Readers, where both aim to spread their belief in the importance of reading. Hamburger is a teacher at the MFA program, while Whitaker is a student.
The event urges protesters to share their love of literature and hopes for a better world by “deluging” the Oval Office with books. As of this writing, 841 people are “interested” in the event, while “548” said they were “going.”
“All our recent presidents, Republican and Democratic, have been readers,” Hamburger wrote in an email to the Huffington Post. “Part of being a leader is knowing what it means to sit in the audience, how to listen, and there’s nothing more humbling and informing than reading, taking in the voice and consciousness of someone else in such a deep way,” he added, with a smattering of shots against Donald Trump’s virtues, or lack thereof. A recent New York Times article emphasized that Donald Trump does not read books.
The event provides three steps to participate. The first one is to buy a book that they think President Donald Trump should read; write a note to the administration explaining why they chose the book and/or promoting an issue they care about; and mail it to the White House on Feb. 14 for the books to arrive “en masse.”
