Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Kalamazoo to Close; 109 Workers To Lose Jobs
Theater chain for new and classic films, Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Kalamazoo, has recently announced through social media that they will be closing on April 3.
The building's owner, Entertainment Properties Realty (EPR), is now on the lookout for a new theatre operator.
EPR stated in the reports of WWMT that they are so much thankful to everyone who has visited and taken time to patronize their theater over the years hoping that the people of Kalamazoo will continuously support them after their departure. The Alamo Drafthouse Cinema said they support the decision of the building's owner to hunt for a new theater operator and added they are still great partners with EPR Properties.
About 109 workers will lose their jobs after Alamo Drafthouse Cinema closes its downtown Kalamazoo location this April 3, according to the reports of Mlive. The cinema house was only three and a half years old. The 109 workers include 50 servers, 26 waiters, 18 cooks and five bartenders along with five managerial jobs who worked for more than six months, 20 hours a week.
The employees at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema declined to produce a statement. But one member of the kitchen staff broke the silence but requested not to be named. He said that it was the best place to work.
"This is one of the best jobs I've ever had. It's the best people, people here are nice. It's a great place to work," said by the unnamed kitchen staff.
