Selena Gomez Utilizes Her Massive Instagram Following To Promote Netflix Show '13 Reasons Why'
There is no doubt that pop star Selena Gomez has a massive fan following on Instagram with over 108 million followers. Now, it looks like the star is utilizing her fame well. She used the photo and video sharing app to release the sneak peak of new Netflix show "13 Reasons Why." The trailer of the much-awaited show was unveiled.
Interestingly, "13 Reasons Why" doesn't feature Gomez but Netflix chose to gain mileage using her huge Instagram following. Otherwise, the digital content producers typically release their original content on YouTube. And they were right, the trailer clocked in 6.2 million views in just 24 hours. In addition, the actress and singer are the executive producers of the show along with her mother, Mandy Teefey.
She also posted a promo poster for "13 Reasons Why" and revealed that her mother read the book in 2009. "This was the day I was nervous as hell going into Netflix for the first time to talk about 13 Reasons Why" she wrote. Fortune highlighted that the 24-year-old starred in the indie dramatic comedy The Fundamentals of Caring, which Netflix acquired for $7 million at last year's Sundance Film Festival.
"13 Reasons Why" is based on a best-selling 2007 young-adult novel of the same name and narrates the suicide of a teen girl Hannah who haunts the trailer with an eerie voice-over. The show will premiere on Netflix on March 31. A report on Variety described, "I'm about to tell you the story of my life. More specifically, why my life ended," Hannah begins, leaning against a school locker and staring straight at the camera.
Meanwhile, Gomez also made her relationship with The Weeknd official through her Instagram. The star shared the picture of her new man and their romantic weekend getaway in Italy. She simply captioned the image with a heart eyes emoji.
