Los-Angeles based artist who is dedicated to improvisational music and performance-based works that critically explore the performer-audience dynamic spearheaded a breakthrough art exhibit. Brendan Fowler carved a path through culture for over a decade, building a deep and varied body of work.

Fowler opens an exhibition entitled "New Portraits" at Richard Telles Fine Arts in Los Angeles through February 11. It also showcased the artist's recent work in portraiture with industrial embroidery machines, adding a newfound looseness inspired by Election Reform!, Fowler's political streetwear brand.

Fowler's works which he deemed as his "crash pieces", a collection of framed photos that appear to have been violently smashed through one another, he also had a performance project BARR and released material on the esteemed indie label Kill Rock Stars, claimed by the Artsy.

He also releases artist books and zines and until recently crediting art magazine ANP Quarterly with Ed Templeton and Aaron Rose. According to the ARTnews, the exhibit also has been influenced by the artist's political streetwear brand "Election Reform" which uses the formal language of fashion as a starting point of dialogue around the flaws of the American electoral system.

The collages are made from recycled clothing and have a tactile, handmade presence. He takes inspiration from DIY and craft communities and inserting them into the world of streetwear, fostering intriguing cultural crossover possibilities in the process.

Fowler believes that it is an effective way to let the younger generations to know his art. It would lead them a pathway to political engagement that is an interesting and accessible counter to more codified forms of activism.

And the fact that his clothing has shown up on everyone from famous personalities like Kanye West to The Weeknd would be an interesting way to let the public know about contemporary art and underground music via clothing.
