'Avengers' director Josh Whedon called out for sexist remark vs. Ivanka Trump

"Avengers" director Joss Whedon has been a staunch critic of US President Donald Trump. From the election period, up to the day of inauguration, Whedon has made strong comments on the Republican president. However, his recent statement pertaining to the Trump family may have been too harsh, as several netizens expressed their concern on the director comparing US first daughter Ivanka Trump to a Pekingese dog.

Whedon recently posted a photo on Twitter with President Trump and Ivanka's husband, Jared Kushner, with a caption saying: "Hey, keep your eyes on this f****** prize too. He's a Voldemort in training, & unlike the Pekingese, he married under, can play the long game." While the director was often lauded by some people for being outspoken, he was called out for hitting below the belt by calling Kushner's wife, Ivanka, a Pekingese.

As noted by Daily Mail, Whedon has been known for empowering female characters in his previous shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," but the director may have taken a step back by referring to a woman as a dog. Whedon's remark was not only slammed by Trump's supporters, but by his own fans as well. People who are actually against Trump took on Twitter to call out Whedon's comparison of Ivanka with a dog, describing the whole act as "disgraceful." They argue that no one has any right to call a woman a dog just for being associated with the wrong person.

For the Trump supporters, Whedon has taken more ire as they started hitting back by throwing insults to him and his wife, Kai Cole. The supporters have also hit low to despise the director, calling Kai "ugly." Whedon made his controversial remark following Kushner's confirmation as a senior adviser to his father-in-law. After a while, the director cleared things up with his tweet, claiming that he did not actually compare Kushner's wife to a Pekingese dog. He felt that his statement was taken out of context that he needs to explain what it was really all about, CBS News reported.

"'The Pekingese he married under' refers to his ugly yappy father-in-law, not Ivanka," Whedon said on Twitter. Even then, the director continues to receive the backlash of his earlier statement, especially from those that have misinterpreted the tweet.
