US President Donald Trump Update: White House Wall Redecoration Is Out Of President's Budget
The one who is in charge of the selection of the pieces which will be on display at public and private spaces of the building is the White House curator's office. However, the First Families still have the final verdict of what they want to change and that also includes the art pieces.
The Obamas art interest leans towards to contemporary art and when they moved to the White House they took down some less-than-exciting portraits. It is one of the first things Obama did when he became president was to replace the portrait of Dwight D. Eisenhower, one of Bush's favorites, with the portrait of his own role model president Harry S. Truman.
According to the New York Times, the president spent a part of Tuesday redecorating the Oval Office swapping the crimson drapes with gold, looking over artwork from the White House collections. Settling on a portrait of Andrew Jackson America's first populist president, who has been invoked by Mr. Trump's aides as inspiration to hang in the office.
The rules for the redecoration in the public spaces of the White House was quite disorganized resulting in the unwilling rise of the allowances for the redecoration. Sometimes the presidents were able to make up the difference out of their private funds but not every president had some ample financial back-up, according to NPR.
So in 1960, the congress issued a law enabling the White House's furnishing to be its inalienable property establishing the White House's status as a museum. It was also extending a legal protection to donate period furnishings and all White House objects.
So there is more than one occasion that they held a big sale in order to raise funds for the new furnishing. But it is early to comment on what the Trump family's impact on the White House art collections; since the White House is a certified museum they would have a lot of people to help them.
