The "House of Cards" Season 5 is among the much-awaited Netflix series this 2017. It's been almost a year since the political drama-thriller wrapped up its fourth season with new conflicts and adversaries poised to challenge President Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) in the next chapter. There is every reason to expect a new season coming up this year, as Netlfix announced the show's renewal even before Season 4 was aired. The only question at this point is when will the fifth season be released on the online streaming media.

After several months, Netflix has finally confirmed the air date of "House of Cards" Season 5, although the confirmation won't sound good for the fans as they have to wait a bit longer. As reported by Slash Gear, the show is now expected to air sometime in Q2 2017, which according to Netflix's schedule is spanning from April to June.

There were expectations that "House of Cards" Season 5 would be available in Netflix's catalogue starting in Q1 2017. Some fans even expected that the release of Season 5 would somehow coincide with the actual inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20. It could have been the perfect timing to air the fifth season of "House of Cards," especially that the upcoming season is also centered on electing the next president of the United States.

There are a lot of things to look forward to in "House of Cards" Season 5. If the fans are already used to shocking deaths of lovable and interesting characters from the past seasons, then it will be easy to see more of that in Season 5. Michael Kelly, who portrays the role of Frank's most trusted aide, Doug Stamper, earlier teased the possibility of more surprising and heart-wrenching deaths next season.

"You lose characters that you love. We almost lost Frank, and I always have faith in the writers that no matter what road we go down, we're going to come back to what the show is," Kelly told Deadline.

One of the exciting twists that may unfold in "House of Cards" Season 5 is Frank's first lady and vice president, Claire Underwood (Robin Wright), trying to snatch the presidency. Reports believe that Claire is likely to plot against her own husband to become the most powerful person in the United States. This won't be surprising for many as Claire is just one step away from the presidential seat.

"House of Cards" Season 5 will also feature new faces in the show, which may or may not spell trouble for the current players. Actors such as Patricia Clarkson and Campbell Scott have been confirmedh to be in the cast next season. Clarkson is known for her Oscar nomination for the movie "Pieces of April," while Scott is known for his role in "Royal Pains," as well as playing Peter Parker's father in "The Amazing Spider-Man."
