The Black Box Theatre In Moline Opens With A Sellout Session By The Westbrook Singers
Theaters and their connoisseurs share an inexplicable bond since time immemorial. Patrons live every moment of the acts played, dialogues uttered and songs rendered. Moline's Black Box Theater is already making a lot of buzz for its very first performance.
According to QC, The Black Box Theatre situated at 1623, 5th Avenue in downtown Moline opened with an highly appreciated performance from the Westbrook Singers which received a standing ovation. Tickets of the sixty-seater theater was fully sold out and the audience was left spell-bounded by the top notch performance.
Formerly belonging to an organization called the Scrapbooking Studio, the retail space has now been transformed into an elegant theatre with a gleeful ambiance that easily gets the audience into the mood. The theater has a separate lobby, three restrooms (one exclusively for the performers) and three rows of raised up seats brought in from the former District Theatre in Rock Island, along with a stage that stretches 50 feet in length and has a depth of 12.5 feet. The new ceiling replaces the old drop ceiling and its 12 foot high.
The renovations costed approximately $25,000 inclusive of the light and sound equipments installations. Micheal, the husband of co-founder Ms. Lora Adams was in charge of the entire painting and decoration. As per the words of Ms. Adams' partner Mr. David Miller, they are looking to produce a total of eight plays and musicals later in the year along with stints from a magician, dance school and an improv troupe.
According to River Cities Reader, the East Moline Gospel group consisting of Gary Westbrook and his three sisters Cynthia Westbrook-Bryson, Delores Westbrook-Tingle and Joyce Westbrook-Lee's performance swept the audience off their feet.
Gary Westbrook was visibly delighted with the response and said, "We wanted to do a concert that focuses on our journey as a group, from singing in our parents' church choir to the present time,"
It is evident that the Black Box Theatre with this sold out performance has created a lot of expectations for itself and its owners Mr. Miller and Ms. Adams. The duo is aware of the expectations that the Black Box has created and they are confident the patrons will have a gala time every time they step into the Theater.
