Texas Medal Of Arts Awards 2017 Honorees Announced
The nonprofit Texas Cultural Trust has announced the 2017 honorees for the Texas Medal of Arts Awards. Who could be among the list of this eminent recognition? During a press conference at the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, the last Texas Medal of Arts Award recipient and Vikki Carr have revealed the honorees to the public, as per San Antonio Current.
According to Sacurrent, the event is celebrated during a gala dinner with the Stars of Texas Brunch at the Governor's Mansion; it also highlights the role of the arts on the economy and education in Texas. For this year, the co-chairs for the awards are Spurs CEO, Peter Holt and arts patron, Guillermo Nicolas.
From an update on KSAT, Jennifer Ransom Rice, executive director of the Texas Cultural Trust said that, "The Texas Medal of Arts Awards is modeled after the Kennedy Center Honors, with a Texas flavor and Texas flair." The event is said to be San Antonio-centric, where the awarding will be also be held at the Tobin Center. The Texas Medal of Arts Awards 2017 honorees are:
John Paul and Eloise DeJoria, corporate patrons from Austin; Kris Kristofferson, multimedia from Brownsville; Jaclyn Smith, television from Houston; Lynn Wyatt, individual arts patron from Houston; Lauren Anderson, dance from Houston; Yolanda Adam, music from Houston; Dallas Black Dance Theatre, arts education from Dallas; Janine Turner, film from Euless; Renée Elise Goldsberry, theater from Houston; The Tobin Endowment, foundation patron from San AntonioLeo Villarreal, visual art from El Paso; Frank Welch, architecture from Dallas; John Phillip Santos, literary from San Antonio; Scott Pelley, journalism from San Antonio; Kenny Rogers, lifetime achievement from Houston.
The Texas Medal of Arts Awards will be on February 21 to 22 which will be held in Austin. Since 2001, Texas Medal of Arts Awards have honored 195 Texans.Stay tuned for more updates on the trending news.
