'Cincinnati Opera' Update Presents: Pink Floyd's Classic Album; Another Brick in the Wall- The Opera’s U.S. premiere
After the premiere of "Another Brick in the Wall: L'Opera" Saturday in Montreal, the announcement about their next show is released. The Cincinnati Opera will present the US premiere on July 2018.
According to The New York Times, the show will be held at the Cincinnati Music Hall. The "Another Brick in the Wall- The Opera" will be the first show the Music Hall will cater after the $135 million restorations.
The show will be led by the Cincinnati Opera in July 2018. "Another Brick in the Wall- The Opera" is derived from Pink Floyd's classic 1979 album "The Wall".
Thus the show will feature the original words and music of Roger Waters. The show made its world premiere at Opéra de Montréal in Quebec on March 11.
The Cincinnati Opera is composed of eight soloists and 48 chorus members, in addition to the 70-piece Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. The opera was directed by Dominic Champagne and composed by Julien Bilodeau.
The orchestra will be conducted by Alain Trudel and the baritone Etienne Dupuis will play the lead, as a "fallen rock star" named Pink. According to the Rolling Stone, the world premiere of "Another Brick in the Wall: L'Opéra" received two standing ovations which happened when it was announced that Roger Waters was in attendance.
After appearing in Montreal's Olympic Stadium in 1977, Waters was inspired to write the opera. The opera is about the revelations of a troubled rock star, so disgusted with himself that he retreats into his mind to find out why he feels so dejected, often watching his past in this-is-your-life-style flashbacks.
With the help of the 50-person choir, the production is much grander and louder. The opera commands an air of solemnity.
Even though the opera is based on Pink Floyd, many of the numbers are wholly unrecognizable. After the production, the audiences stand on their feet for another standing ovation shouting pleasantries.
