Hugh Jackman Talks About 'Logan': Will This Be His Last Movie As Wolverine?
Directed by Mangold from a script by David James Kelly and Michael Green, Logan brings back fellow X-men Franchise actor Patrick Stewart as an aging Charles Xavier. The telepathic mutant joins Logan for one last adventure in a future when mutants have all but disappeared from the world and a young girl with all-too- familiar abilities finds herself in a dire need of a hero.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Jackman is finally hanging up his adamantium claws. Hugh Jackman has been associated with Wolverine from the moment he became a movie star. Jackman has played Wolverine in X-Men sequels and prequels, as well as in the Wolverine spinoff films: X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine. Wolverine is once more portrayed in the latest movie Logan.
Logan will have its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival on Friday. It is a movie where Jackman will say goodbye to the role that made him a global star. Jackman said that he loved that character, but he won’t miss him because he will always be with him. The movie is set in 2029, an era where mutants have gone extinct. It touches on issues of immigration, xenophobia, and the legacy of violence. Logan also stars Boyd Holbrook, Stephen Merchant, Richard E. Grant, and Dafne Keen.
New York Times reports that Hugh Jackman will not retire after Logan. He also feels that in every movie he’s done, he has had a gnawing doubt where he hasn’t nailed it fully in both story or performance. But he doesn’t feel that way in Logan. Hugh Jackman was known way before he was first considered for Wolverine. He has performed on Australian TV and onstage, and has received wide acclaim for playing Curly in a 1998 West End revival of “Oklahoma”. Hugh Jackman wasn’t the first choice for the Logan character.
First, it was Dougray Scott, but he dropped out over a schedule conflict with Mission: Impossible 2. Jackman has starred in the first three X-Men movies, two previous Wolverine movies, and the 2014 entry, X-Men: Days of Future Past. After X-Men: Apocalypse, Hugh didn’t want to return to the franchise. But he changed his mind when Neill Blomkamp asked him if he could do only one more film in the series, what story would he tell?
Jackman recorded a voice memo that laid out the framework for Logan. He wanted to tell the story of the fallen hero that tries to escape his past, find some peace and deal with disappointment and regret. Hugh Jackman said that it was only a matter of time before another actor took over Wolverine.
