Mike Leigh's production of Gilbert and Sullivan opera was first experienced in 2015. Traditionalist claimed that the abstraction of Alison Chitty seems disappointing; there something strange in terms of employing the color sets which made the drama lack its meaningful context. Others missed the radical imagination that dignified Jonathan Miller's classic Mikado in "The Pirates of Penzance," which was first acted on stage in 1986.

Last year's "The Pirate of Penzance" seems non-specific in both visuals and costumes leading its first rival to be the spotlight. Francesca Jayne's choreography was simple yet effective with its chorus went through aberrant routines while Mike Leigh's Gilbert and Sullivan overall rating was ensured that goofy yet absolutely logical twists of Gilbert's plot.

"The Pirate of Penzance" production was basically difficult pressed with poor directorial skills according to Music OMH. One example is that almost all of its first scene actions took place in a tiny section of the stage as the pirates' ship was stuck into a wall.

There were also instances in "The Pirate of Penzance" moments where humor was played excessively. That time when Frederic first approaches Major-General Stanley's daughter, saying all the bad things because he has never met the girl before, but they acted with an extreme exaggeration of expressions and tears destroyed the moment of beauty and the nuance of the joke.

As the Pirate King in "The Pirate of Penzance," Ashley Riches packed with fanfaronade while Lucy Schaufer's abundant in center stage keeps her garner bunch of audience sympathy as the cruelty Ruth raised. Sullivan's score in the way he acted was well served too, Gareth Jones conducts accurately. As reported by The Guardian, Soraya Mafi played Mabel as she delivered the character so elegantly with help of David Webb giving a keen tentorial meaning in his portrayal of the character Frederic, the Slave of Duty of the opera's subtitle in "The Pirate of Penzance."

Nothing beats a first-class staging of Gilbert and Sullivan operetta in "The Pirates of Penzance" where they proved that there is a revival of the act and can run it on a second installment. Mark Richardson will play as the Sergeant Police from March 16 until March 25 at the Coliseum, London.
