‘Stranger Things‘ Season 2 Teaser Airs During Super Bowl, Returns This Halloween

Last summer’s breakthrough sci-fi/horror TV series, “Stranger Things” is set to treat fans to another season of thrilling 80's nostalgia this Halloween. That much was revealed in the show’s 36-second trailer for its second season, which aired during Super Bowl 51.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, the “Stranger Things” Season 2 teaser began with a 1979 commercial for Eggo waffles – Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) favorite snack and quickly segued into a series of flashing images that included a crimson thunderstorm and what appears to be a giant spider-esque monster. “The world is turning upside down,” according to the trailer, which is perhaps both a reference to the alternative dimension featured prominently in the first season and the current state of American politics.

As noted by Rolling Stone, the return of “Stranger Things” has been met with heavy anticipation ever since Netflix announced in August that it would be renewing the sci-fi/horror series. The first season centered on the show’s adorable cast’s frantic search for their friend Will. According to Entertainment Weekly, Season 2 will see danger hovering beyond the main characters and into the entirety of Hawkins, Indiana. “In Season 1, Will is in danger. And in Season 2, it’s the town; the stakes escalate in that way,” “Stranger Things” co-creator told EW.

“Stranger Things’” stars Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Noah Schnapp took to Instagram to further the buzz for the show’s second season, posting upside down selfies to keep in tune with the teaser’s theme. Schnapp also posted a video of the case watching the Super Bowl teaser. It is believed that Season 2 will be set a year after the events of Season 1, and will touch on the mythology behind Will’s disappearance.

“Stranger Things” Season 2 is scheduled for its Netflix release on Oct. 31. It makes its return after being originally released on the streaming network last July 15.
