Morning Links: The Most Interesting Art Related Topic For The Week; Chinese Antiquities Edition
On a daily basis, the form of news in which viewers are most likely to see consist of entertainment, politics, and even finance. It is quite rare for an art enthusiast to read news that about an artwork or a piece itself. For a website who covers a lot about arts, Art News are breaking the trend by updating their audiences with art related news. Thus, they coined the term "Morning Links" on their website. Everything is newsworthy and updated, the page is filled with external links from other website's article about arts.
For this week, Art News named their edition "Morning Links: X-Rated Chinese Antiquities Edition." The highlight for this week came from San Francisco Chronicle with a headline "Facebook objects to X-rated ads for Asian Art Museum antiquities." The article featured some of the ancient items from China's Han Dynasty. However, their ads on Facebook got blocked due to the fact that the following ancient items greatly resembles a "sex toy" in our present time. Of course, this wasn't the case. The items were used for the embalming process to prevent body mass loss on some people. Other vessels included in their collection are some urinals, ceramics, bathroom equipment, and other toiletries.
Another story that was featured came from Market Watch which had the headline "Collectors are flocking to buy animation art." It seems that there are groups of people who want animated art pieces nowadays. Some auction houses even report that the prices of some drawings, storyboards or anything to make a cartoon had their prices rise up steadily. According to Van Eaton, he stated that most of the collectors today "want to buy back a piece of their childhood." Since the animated art was very popular during the early 1920s, it is understandable that these group of collectors are somehow older now and can afford to buy these pieces.
