George Lucas' Museum of Narrative Art Will Come Up In Los Angeles Exposition Park
The wait is finally over. George Lucas will locate his Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, soon.
According to a report published in the Los Angeles Times, Lucas, the creator of hit film series, "Star Wars," will showcase his personal collection of popular and fine art in Exposition Park in L.A. The site was chosen in preference to a design for San Francisco Bay's Treasure Island.
In addition to his personal collection, Lucas will feature his "Star Wars" franchise music collection in the $1 billion spanking new museum. The museum is expected to not only bring tourists to enjoy Lucas' collection but also create more jobs to boost the local economy.
According to the report, the Museum of Narrative Art will give a fillip to the art scene in Los Angeles, already a global art production center.
The new museum will rub shoulders with the Broad museum, Santa Monica Museum of Art (name to be changed to Institute of Contemporary Art Los Angeles), Hauser Wirth & Schimmel gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art, Main Museum, the contemporary art museum from Guess founders and the Marciano Art Foundation.
According to another report published in The Verge, Lucas had to struggle to get a city for his museum. His efforts to locate it in Chicago or San Francisco did not materialize due to various reasons. However, it seems to have ended well for Lucas as he is now ready to locate it in L.A.
The museum, likely to be opened in the year 2020, promises to be a path breaker in the art field where barriers between 'popular art' and 'high' art will not be present.
Art lovers can look forward to view the works of some of the greatest artists of our times such as Maxfield Parrish, Norman Rockwell, Pierra-Auguste Renoir and Edgar Degas. They also can witness art creation techniques.
The museum is also expected to house a number of lecture halls, classrooms and theaters where workshops would be conducted besides giving opportunity to visiting artists to showcase their talents.
